Anchorage Day 3
Everyone crashed by 10:30 last night. The hike and fresh air did the trick. Kent made a breakfast sandwich for everyone and meds are going down with water! Rain was light all night and looks to continue throughout the morning into the afternoon. Then a break with another front coming in tonight. Rain and flood warnings through Monday, but really due to mountain accumulation.
Packing up to head out in our Turo Rav4!
Light rain was pretty much non-event and no rain at the South Fork Falls trailhead. We took the high road to the top of the falls. Very cool view. Quite a few Mosquitos so glad we had sprayed on.
Eric found us on the return from the upper path. The lower was a bit muddy and tougher navigation, but worth it.
This local couple had a couple of boys who bare footed climbed to the top with dad. Then step into the 32-degree water to clean off the mud. We are still raising strong children in the USA.
After the hike, we stopped in Eagle River to get gas and a pee break. The roads were blocked due to a parade in much heavier rain. After some maneuvering on back streets, we found a shell station. Eric and Kent found another station. Potty break, snacks, and gas. The parade passed and we headed out to catch Eric and Kent.
Janie, Sheila, and Jeff drove north to catch up with Eric and Kent. From there we drove to Hatcher Pass where Eric recommended we check out. 20 miles at 20 mph, but spectacular views despite the weather.
On the way home from Willow on the west side of the pass, it was decided we need to hunt out the rain gear for the ATV ride tomorrow.
REI, Alaska Mountain Gear, and Cabelas stop to acquire a raincoat for Jeff and rain pants for Janie. Sheila found a rain coat she needed, so headed to Airbnb with a quick stop for alcohol.
Back home, Eric headed out and Sheila settled into a bath and early bed. Janie and Kent grabbed some Chinese and the evening went by fast. Like skiing tired from days activities. Sunlight to midnight though messes with your head. Good thing we have the eyeshades to help block out the light when feeling tired and ready to crash.
