Travel Day - Kansas City and St Louis

Image
4:14 a.m. was already light outside, but still felt like waking up way to early.  The Clemow Uber was waiting and off they go to the airport. Cool seats at Anchorage Airport  All day travel with no major events.  Home successfully around 10:30.  Same for Whites who flew home via Chicago after a 9 am departure with Eric being an Uber ride. Another vacation logged!!  Thanks Sheila and Kent for invite and being great travel partners.

Last Day in Alaska

Image
Tuesday the 26th of July is our last day in Alaska.  Hard to believe we have been here 2 full weeks and fly home tomorrow. Janie fixed the last three eggs with the leftover brat and bagel for breakfast.  The expresso machine makes expresso for sure!  A little Airborne and all good for the morning fuel up.  Colds all sound better for everyone!!! Kent provided an update on flooding in St Louis today along I70.  It sounds like 8-9 inches of rain around Lambert. Checked in for our flight to KC and realized we have two connections (MPLS and Detroit) arriving in KC at 9:10 p.m.  12-hour travel time once we take off, so 15 hours total with airport and travel time.  Ugh.  The Whites are going home through Chicago and while leaving later get in about the same time to St. Louis. We headed out to a hike along Eagle River with the plans to hike, lunch, and Brewery.  Upon arrival realized with the road out, we can't get to the trailhead.  So we opted...

Talkeetna last morning - Travel to Anchorage

Image
This morning the rain is back with a study rain.  No wind, so rain coming down like a rain shower head.  Everyone except Jeff is sleeping in after a long and late night. Sheila made egg sandwiches and we all packed up the car for the trek to Anchorage. Rain till the other side of Wasilla and we saw our Moose.  Unfortunately an accident still in progress with the Moose and mini van loosing.  Sad to see.  We stop for cold meds and return to Walmart.  Stopped at a Shell station for gas, then searched out lunch to eat Mexican.  Ended up at Haciendas. After lunch, we found our last Airbnb close to the airport. Two bedroom townhouse. The late afternoon focused on expense review, calls, blog, and planning for tomorrow.   Even watched the pilot for Ted Lasso.  Add it to the long list of shows to watch. The owner is next door and has a Springer spaniel named Finnegan.  Jeff met Finnegan who loved the treat...

Talkeetna Day 2

Image
It's the second Sunday of our Alaskan Adventure.   Sheila is still under the weather, but much better.  Kent seems better.  Eric is fine so far.  Janie has a runny nose and chest hack.  Jeff is similar to Janie.  Quite the group of old folks that powering through a fantastic two-week vacation! Sheila and Kent left at 8:30 am for Church service in Talkeetna and were back by 10.  Sheila cooked the sausage and eggs so we all could enjoy a hot breakfast. Janie got on the phone and arranged a white water rapid excursion up by Denali.  The plan is to go to Talkeetna and explore and enjoy a late lunch. The gun range just up the highway has been pretty active.  We assume one reason there are no Moose or Bear in the area. Jeff took a morning walk around the property and found where they had a sawmill set up to cut all the wood for the buildings.  Eric and Kent went to the gun range to shoot.  As Jeff, and the ladies were about to head o...

Talkeetna from Kenai via Anchorage

Goodbye, this morning to the Sterling Cabin.  We really enjoyed the cabin and the peaceful nature.  So much fun hanging out and being close to everything we wanted to do. 4 plus hour drive to Talkeetna.   Only potty stops till Anchorage. Then up to Lowes in Anchorage to confirm doors for baby Clemow closets.  We were able to get the part code confirmed.  Next step order 2 for the baby and Sarah's closet.  Kent and Jeff will install after the baby shower. Then lunch at the restaurant that supposedly the owner of our first Airbnb works.  Janie ask the waiter if Billy was working and a strange, um no Billy work here.  The food was good (Vietnamese). Off to Our next Airbnb versus all the way to Talkeetna today.  A little rain on the way, but pretty much a sunny day. Our next place is a cabin way off the path.  This is what many would picture as an Alaska home.  We checked out the digs, then Chubb...
